Perry
decided upon a life in the theater when, as a teenager, he attended a
preview performance of the musical Irene in Toronto at which the star,
the indomitable Miss Debbie Reynolds, suffering from laryngitis, was unable
to perform. Instead, Sir John Gielgud, recited the lines and song lyrics
of Irene O'Dare, a girl of uncommon personality and beauty. Perry is currently
involved in litigation against the producers of Off-Broadway's Naked Boys
Singing for stealing his ultimate sexual fantasy and using it for profit.
Perry met his boyfriend through a personal ad which, according to him,
was supposed to be in the "Love and Romance" section and inadvertently
appeared under "Whatever's Clever". The ad carried the heading
"Seeking Big Ticklish Men". Perry claims he was just looking
for someone who likes to laugh.
